India-Japan strengthen strategic partnership with agreements on Artificial Intelligence, energy and economic security

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is currently on a 3-day visit to India as the two countries look to strengthen their partnership. India and Japan have always enjoyed a strong relationship and it is getting a further boost during this visit. PM Takaichi met her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi today, July 2, as the two countries signed a series of agreements to further increase the cooperation between the two countries.

The agreements signed between the two countries covered a number of sectors including Artificial Intelligence, economic security, critical minerals, defence, healthcare and energy.

After the talks with PM Modi, Takaichi said, “Japan and India will leverage each other’s strengths to ⁠grow strong and prosperous together. Amid a turbulent international landscape, ​building such a mutually complementary cooperative relationship has become increasingly important.”

The Indian Prime Minister echoed his counterpart’s sentiment and highlighted how the two countries can benefit each other in the technology sector. He said, “Prime Minister Takaichi and I believe that a technology partnership will become the strongest pillar of our cooperation. Several key institutions within the Indian AI ecosystem have also signed agreements with their Japanese partners today. The convergence of Japan’s precision technology and India’s software capabilities will impart new momentum and strength to global AI development.”

The two countries also signed the agreement for their first defence co-development project involving the Naval Radio Antenna ‘Unicorn’.

The camaraderie between the two Prime Ministers was visible for all to see as they agreed to take this relationship between India and Japan forward like brother and sister.
