What initially appeared to be accidental death of Ketan Vishal Agarwal at Lohagad Fort near Pune, has now turned into a murder investigation with his fiancée Siya Goyal accused of murdering the businessman. The case has drawn attention not only because of its brutality but also because of the painstaking digital and forensic trail that ultimately exposed the crime.
Notably, Police had earlier registered an accidental death report in the case after Ketan fell 400 feet to his death at Lohagad Fort. However, the examination of mobile phone records and inconsistencies surrounding the couple’s visit to the fort later shifted the investigation towards alleged murder. Siya and her 22-year-old alleged boyfriend Chetan Babulal Chaudhary were arrested on Tuesday, June 23.
Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary were arrested after police examined their call records and digital interactions. Hours of phone calls and messaging helped police get to the bottom of the case.
Investigators revealed that the breakthrough came after analysing more than 2,000 phone calls, social media activity, financial transactions, and travel records linked to the victim and the suspects, Siya Goyal and her boyfriend. The businessman had reportedly gone missing after informing family members that he was travelling for work. When he failed to return and became unreachable, concern quickly grew among relatives and friends.
Now, an Instagram post by Siya Goyal has surfaced in which, after Agarwal’s death on June 18, Siya shared a sad Instagram story mourning his demise. “You left me on my birthday. You left when we were so close to getting married. I still can’t understand why you did this to me. I had dreams, questions I’ll never get answers to. Why did you leave me when I loved you so much? Rest in peace,” the post read.
Notably, Ketan and Siya were scheduled to get married later this year in a lavish ceremony in a palace in Rajasthan. However, Siya reportedly wanted to be with her boyfriend Chetan, and saw Ketan as an obstacle to that.
Ketan was lured to Lohagad Fort under the pretext of celebrating Siya’s birthday where Chetan Chaudhary was already present, and the two accused carefully chose an isolated spot at the fort to carry out the crime and pushed Ketan to his death.
The two accused have reportedly confessed to the crime in custody.
