The Pak military establishment is finding itself cornered. The latest to put it on the back foot is Sky Sports broadcasting an interview with Imran Khan’s sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, which reveals the ill-treatment being meted out to the former Pak skipper & ex-PM Imran Khan by the incumbent Pak government, which continues to be a puppet at the hands of its army.
The incident took place on 27 August 2026, during the second Test between England and Pakistan at Lord’s, when Sky Sports broadcast an interview with Imran Khan’s sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, which was conducted by former England cricket team captain Michael Atherton.
Now the interview has literally touched a raw nerve of the Pakistani military establishment as it dwelt at length on Imran’s long imprisonment and deteriorating health conditions. The Pakistani skipper’s sons in particular expressed fear about their father’s life.
The Pakistan Cricket Board, which was taken aback after the broadcast of the interview, strictly advised its players to avoid answering any question linked to the 1992 World Cup-winning captain.
Interestingly, there were also reports that after the interview with Imran Khan’s sons was done, PCB asked Sky Sports not to broadcast it and even threatened to boycott the ongoing Lord’s Test. But Sky Sports paid little heed to PCB’s threat and went ahead with the broadcast.
Since 2003, legendary Pakistani cricketer & former PM Imran Khan, who has been convicted in cases of corruption is undergoing imprisonment inside the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. There are reports of Khan also facing physical challenges. Pakistani authorities have also been charged with not providing right medical treatment to him.
Very recently, Uzma Khan, sister of Imran Khan, had filed a petition in the country’s Apex Court, accusing the government of violating the top court’s directive to shift Imran to a private hospital for medical examination and treatment.
A lot of pressure is building up on Pakistan, with several international cricketers who have played with Imran Khan like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and others, expressing concern over Imran Khan’s deteriorating health and asking the Pakistani authorities to release the former all-rounder immediately.
