On June 18, 2023, Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gunned down in the parking lot of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. It looked like a regular case of violence in Canada, thanks to Canadian authorities welcoming extremists from all parts of the world and giving them shelter. But then, their then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau decided he can use this issue to pander to Khalistanis living in Canada and secure their votes.
In Canadian Parliament, Justin Trudeau lied with a straight face and blamed India for the killing of Hardeep Nijjar. Trudeau thought by capitalising on Khalistanis’ hatred for India, he will get their votes and will continue to serve as the Prime Minister of Canada. Despite being repeatedly asked by India to provide some proof, any proof, linking India to the death of Hardeep Nijjar, Trudeau couldn’t provide one. After all, how could he provide something that doesn’t exist.
Now, over 3 years after Nijjar’s death, Canadian police have said that they have found no evidence implicating Indian government officials in the case.
Talking to Canadian state broadcaster CBC News, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Deputy Commissioner Lisa Moreland said, “There is no evidence to suggest that, through this organised crime syndicate investigation and the charges laid forward, that Indian government officials would be charged or involved in this… Nothing has come out to link the Indian government.”

Moreland added that investigations are still underway. However, it must be noted that years after Justin Trudeau accused Indian government of orchestrating the terrorist’s killing, while standing in Canadian Parliament, Canada couldn’t find anything to link India with the killing of Hardeep Nijjar.
This raises the question, why did Canada jeopardise its relationship with a friendly state India over a Khalistani terrorist? Just to secure some votes from Khalistanis, Trudeau brazenly lied in Canadian Parliament and severed diplomatic relations with India? Just how much damage he did to Canada by doing this?
Under the new Prime Minister Mark Carney, India-Canada relations are slowly building up again, but the damage done by Justin Trudeau through his falsehoods will take a lot of time to repair. And all that for a Khalistani terrorist?
Maybe in due time, Canada will even stop sheltering them.
