Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, India’s star weightlifter has once again created history, she has won 3rd straight Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Mirabai Chanu won the Gold in 48 Kilograms category, opening India’s gold medal account in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. This is Chanu’s 3rd successive Gold in these games. She also has silver medals in Olympics and another one in 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The 31-year-old Mirabai lifted 85kg in snatch, which was a Commonwealth record in that weight group, and then she clinched games record 105kg in clean and jerk for a total of 190kg. These lifts ensured the Gold medal for her for 3rd consecutive time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged the amazing achievement, he posted on X, “Another glorious chapter in Indian Weightlifting! The talented Mirabai Chanu once again showcased her skills at the Commonwealth Games with a stunning performance in the 48 kg category and winning Gold.
