Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigns

Amidst the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from his post. Mr Pradhan shared his resignation letter on the social media platform X.

Dharmendra Pradhan took responsibility for the NEET-PG exam paper leak in his resignation. Pradhan also mentioned that he is sad to see the events of the last 10 days, referring to the violence during the ongoing protest at the Jantar Mantar.

He wrote in his resignation letter all the steps government has taken in the wake of the exam paper leak. He noted that the government acted swiftly by handing over the probe to the CBI, cancelling the examination, and conducting it again on June 21 with a “whole-of-government approach” involving Centre, states, and district administrations. Over 20 lakh students appeared for the परीक्षा, he said, adding that the results declared on July 16 reflected the success of the process.

Pradhan expressed concern over the recent developments, mentioning that certain elements attempted to mislead students, leading to unrest. Emphasising that the issue should not become a cause for legal complications or be exploited by anti-national forces.

Dharmendra Pradhan also mentioned that his resignation was intended to ensure that students can focus on their education.
