The insurgency in Pakistan’s Balochistan province is gaining strength as attacks on Pakistani forces increase rapidly. In yet another attack on Paakistani military, Balochistan Liberation Army has killed 45 Pakistani soldiers, Balochistan Post reported. The attack was on a security convoy near Mastung in the region of Balochistan. The attack was carried out by the Fateh squad of the BLA. The death toll is further expected to rise.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said in his statement that the group’s fighters targeted the security convoy, its escort and additional military reinforcements that arrived after the attack began.
This is the 3rd major attack on Pakistani forces this month as Balochistan continues its struggle for independence. Pakistani authorities have confirmed the attack but are yet to release the official death toll. Pakistan Army spokesperson Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said Pakistan’s military would hunt those responsible and will not spare them.
The insurgency has been continuing in Balochistan for decades, but seems to have gathered pace in recent times as Pakistan continues to struggle to bring the situation under control. Fed up with Islamabad’s continous exploitation of the resources in the region, their neglect of the region’s development, BLA fighters have increased the intensity of their attacks.
