Opposition will face consequences for opposing women’s reservation bill: PM Modi

The much awaited and long overdue women reservation bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha on Friday, April 18. The bill needed 2/3 of the members in its favour and Indian opposition decided to vote against the bill. There were several reasons given by Indian opposition for not supporting reservation for women, but we all know what is the main reason- Just opposing whatever Narendra Modi proposes.

The hate for the man had earlier translated into hate for India, and now hate for half of India. Why shouldn’t women get their just right.

Now PM Modi has called out the opposition for ensuring the women reservation doesn’t pass.

Notably, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill aimed to reserve 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. However, it failed to secure a two-thirds majority to pass the Lok Sabha. The Bill received only 298 votes in its favour, while 230 MPs opposed it.

“They have let down the women of the country. This message must be taken to every single person, to every single village,” PM Modi reportedly said during a private meeting with his cabinet colleagues.

The irony is that all these parties had earlier advocated for the same, but when PM Modi tried to bring this bill, when push came to shove, they all chickened out.

Will we see this women reservation bill getting passed in our lifetimes? Your guess is as good as mine.
