E-way bill generation rises by 14.5% in June, highest in 4 months

E-way bill generation under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rose 14.5 % year-on-year (Y-o-Y) to a four-month high of 136.77 million in June 2026 from 119.46 million a year earlier.

An e-way bill (Electronic Way Bill) is a mandatory digital document under the GST regime. It must be generated on the E-Way Bill system portal before transporting any consignment of goods valued at over ₹50,000.

This figure is the highest in 4 months, and the fourth-highest monthly e-way bill generation since the roll out of GST in India.

E-way bill generation has now remained above 130 million for six consecutive months. This just goes to highlight the scale of domestic trade and logistics activity. Monthly generation reached a record 140.6 million in March 2026 before easing seasonally in April, now it has rebounded and is at a 4 months high.

The spike in these numbers points to greater GST compliance, increase in domestic trade and the robustness of the Indian economy.

Notably, these figures come after the news that simplified rules and automated approvals have driven nearly eight lakh more GST registrations in six months. This highlights how process reforms, not just rate cuts, are bringing informal activity into the formal tax system.

As more and more people join the formal economy and GST compliance increased, this figure is expected to go even higher.
