Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, in response to the remarks of Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, said that Pakistan’s current situation and security problems are the result of that country’s policies which, according to him, supported extremism and used it against Afghanistan.
Mr. Karzai on Tuesday, June 2, on his X account, asked Ms. Kallas to consider the main and fundamental causes of the current crisis in the region based on objective facts, causes that, according to him, have led to many human casualties in Afghanistan and the destruction of public infrastructure.
Mr Karzai wrote, “I hope that Ms. Kaja Kallas@kajakallas, the esteemed Representative of Europe for Foreign and Security Affairs and esteemed Vice President of the European Commission, based on objective realities and considering that Afghanistan and its people are victims of terrorism created by Pakistan, will take into account the main factors and roots of the current crisis in the region, which have caused widespread human casualties and destruction of public infrastructure in Afghanistan.”

On Monday, Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, at a joint press conference in Islamabad with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, referring to the recent clashes between Pakistan and the Taliban government, said that Pakistan has the right to defend itself and its people under international law, but in the current circumstances the best solution is dialogue, not airstrikes.
Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan increased in February this year when both sides resorted to extensive clashes along the Durand Line. Although major conflicts have now stopped, reports of clashes along the line are still occasionally reported.
