There are global concerns right now over the spread of Ebola, a zoonotic viral hemorrhagic fever with a mortality rate of around 50%. Over 250 people have died due to the current outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. There are over a 1000 known cases of the virus in DR Congo.
The virus spreads through direct contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people or animals.
As concerns grow over the outbreak of the disease in other countries, Ministry of Health has issued an advisory to Indians traveling to and from the affected countries. The ministry also clarified that no Ebola case has been detected in India so far.
In their post on X, the ministry wrote, “As on 2nd June, 2026, there are no cases of Ebola disease reported in the country. However, if you have travelled from or transited through an Ebola-affected country in the last 21 days and develop symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea, or unexplained bleeding, etc., isolate yourself and inform local health authorities.”

The ministry also shared the helpline number 1075 for information, guidance and assistance about the disease.
Notably, India has a large diaspora living in Africa where the virus is spreading so the ministry has urged the travelers going there to observe caution when it comes to the deadly virus.
