Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claims responsibility for Islamabad attack; Pak’s Defence Minister says the country is in a state of war

Islamabad blast

On Tuesday, November 11, a suicide attack outside a court in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad killed 12 people and injured at least 27 others. Now, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Notably, TTP and Pakistan security forces are locked in a deadly struggle across the Durand Line which separates Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had shared the news saying the attacker was trying to get inside the district court but was unable to get inside. He detonated the explosives outside the premises that ended up killing 12 people.

In its statement taking responsibility for the attack, TTP said,  “Judges, lawyers and officials who carried out rulings under Pakistan’s un-Islamic laws were targeted.”

Tehreek-e-Taliban threatened more attacks in Pakistan till Islamic sharia law is not implemented in the Muslim-majority country.

TTP has already carried out more than 600 attacks in Pakistan this year alone, mostly in the region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where TTP is most active.

Following the attack, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that a deadly surge in terror attacks has put Pakistan in a “state of war”. Pakistan has already lost dozens of its soldiers in the clashes with TTP during the last few weeks and it continues to bleed.

The peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan held in Turkey to try and resolve this major security crisis for Pakistan didn’t result in any resolution.
