Jewar Airport to be named after PM Narendra Modi: Yogi Adityanath cabinet approves proposal

In a significant announcement, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved a proposal to name Noida International Airport at Jewar as Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. The Chief Minister announced the decision on Friday, October 9, 2026, highlighting the state government’s desire to honour the Prime Minister’s contribution to India’s infrastructure development.

The announcement marks another milestone for the ambitious airport project, which is expected to strengthen Uttar Pradesh’s position as a major aviation and logistics hub.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the airport, located in Gautam Buddha Nagar district, on March 28, 2026. Conceived as a major aviation gateway for the National Capital Region, it is designed to complement Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and cater to the growing demand for air travel, cargo transportation and international connectivity.

The project is expected to benefit not only Noida and Greater Noida but also neighbouring cities such as Agra, Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Aligarh. Improved connectivity could attract investment, encourage industrial development, generate employment and support tourism across western Uttar Pradesh.

The naming decision also carries political significance. It is a recognition of Modi’s emphasis on infrastructure-led development and his government’s efforts to expand India’s aviation network. The airport has been presented as part of the broader vision of building a modern, economically competitive India.

With the Cabinet’s approval, the proposed renaming places Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s name on one of Uttar Pradesh’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. If implemented through the required formalities, the airport could become another prominent landmark associated with the Prime Minister’s development agenda.

For Uttar Pradesh, the larger challenge now is to turn this ambitious aviation project into a lasting engine of economic growth, employment and global connectivity.
