From hidden labs to open screens: Indian Deep Tech startups gain new visibility

In recent weeks, something exciting has been happening on X and across Indian tech circles. Quiet deep tech startups—those working on hard problems in space, energy, manufacturing, farming, medicine, and more—are suddenly becoming visible. Their websites look professional. They share real videos of jet engine tests, rocket components, robotic systems, or lab experiments. AI-generated clips and simple demos make the work feel real and close. After successes like those from Agnikul Cosmos, more people are noticing that Indian deep tech is growing fast, and it is inspiring young entrepreneurs. 

For a long time, many of these companies worked behind the scenes. They built hardware, ran tests in labs or small facilities, and focused on solving tough technical challenges. As they say that growth is the byproduct of visibility, now their websites and media content are being shared widely. Users open a site, watch a short video of a test, and feel surprised: “This is happening in India right now.”

Space is the most active area. Startups such as Vyom Space, Astrobase, Abyom, EtherealX, Othisis, SpaceFields, Cosmicport, Spantrik, OmSpace, Bharat Space Vehicle, Vertotech, Space Philic, Trishul Space, Talisha and Star appear in lists shared by enthusiasts. Their websites show plans for rockets, satellites or exploration tools. Digantara recently unveiled MOSAIC—an AI-powered system that tracks hundreds of objects in orbit using optical sensors. Videos and explanations circulated quickly. Serendipity Space tested an autonomous pharmaceutical factory in near-space conditions with a high-altitude balloon, aiming to make medicines or protein crystals in microgravity. Astrophel Aerospace focuses on precision components like turbopumps and cryogenic valves, drawing investor attention for manufacturing and export potential.

Energy and advanced physics are also drawing notice. Pranos Fusion in Bengaluru developed a compact tokamak called PRAGYA to study the extreme conditions needed for nuclear fusion—the process that powers the sun. Quantum efforts, such as QpiAI opening a manufacturing facility for quantum chips in Bengaluru, show frontier science moving into real companies. ART-PV India, linked to IIT Bombay, is advancing perovskite-silicon tandem solar cells for higher efficiency.

Manufacturing and precision engineering provide strong examples. Ethereal Machines builds high-accuracy CNC machines and offers machining services for aerospace and defence. NaxatraLabs develops deeptech motor technology, highlighted by investors for precision engineering and export upside. Adiabatic works on new-age battery systems. Both are often mentioned together in discussions of India’s manufacturing strengths. Videos of jet engine tests from companies like dpropulse add to the open demonstration of hardware progress.

Agriculture, robotics, drones, medical applications and related fields follow the same pattern. Garuda Aerospace builds drones for defence, agriculture and logistics, emerging as a success from a Chennai college incubation centre. EarthSense Labs, incubated at IIT Delhi, applies geospatial AI for landslide mitigation. In medicine, Endimension uses AI to help read X-rays and scans faster, useful where specialists are scarce. EcoSTP offers a nature-inspired way to treat sewage without heavy power or chemicals. Voxelgrids has developed a more affordable indigenous MRI scanner. Aaloka AI provides hyper-local Indian map intelligence for enterprises. NeoGeo, a Gurugram geospatial startup, raised $20 million in Series A funding after mapping large areas and managing CORS stations. AppSentinels delivers full API and AI lifecycle security for Indian enterprises and has been featured in Nasscom Deeptech discussions.

What makes this moment special is the combination of polished websites, short AI-enhanced videos of hardware tests (engines, sensors, machines, balloons or satellites), and simple shared lists. After Agnikul-style successes, these create an “awe” reaction that Indian deeptech—especially space, fusion, precision manufacturing, eVTOL, space-biotech and more—is proliferating beyond well-known names. Visibility is mostly organic rather than massive campaigns. Searching for the names plus “website” or “demo” quickly surfaces more examples. The ecosystem feels denser precisely because of these quieter players going public with tangible sites and content.

This openness matters. It gives practical hope to budding entrepreneurs and shows that patient work on hard problems can reach the public. It strengthens India’s push toward self-reliance in advanced technology. The ecosystem is still young and faces challenges, yet the growing number of these quieter players going public with tangible sites and content makes the field feel denser and more alive every day. Indian deep tech is no longer completely hidden.
