Kolkata witnessed a tragic incident on Wednesday, June 24, after an under-construction warehouse building collapsed in a busy industrial area of the city. The collapse of the warehouse ended up killing at least three people and injuring 18 others. Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately after the collapse, launching an extensive operation to search for survivors trapped under the debris.
Several workers were present inside the warehouse when a large section of the structure suddenly gave way. Local residents joined hands with the emergency responders to rescue those trapped under the debris. Ambulances rushed to the spot and transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment. Some of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.
The exact cause of the collapse remains unclear. Officials from the municipal corporation and disaster management department have started an investigation to determine what contributed to the incident.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari left for the accident site soon after receiving information about the tragedy. The Chief Minister is expected to review the ongoing rescue efforts, meet with affected families, and hold discussions with senior officials overseeing the operation. State authorities have assured that all necessary assistance will be provided to the victims and their families.
As rescue operations continue, authorities have urged people to avoid the area and cooperate with emergency personnel. Further details are expected to emerge once the investigation progresses and officials complete a detailed assessment of the site.
