British MP Rupert Lowe has rekindled the debate over the UK’s grooming gangs scandal after presenting findings from an independent inquiry into the targeted child sexual exploitation in United Kingdom by Pakistani grooming gangs. Findings about the sufferings of the victims by these gangs, who were active in UK for decades, were shared by Lowe during a speech in Parliament.
The report included testimonies from survivors detailing years of abuse, institutional failures in protecting the victims and how race played a role in how victims were selected by these gangs.
In his speech, Lowe read out statements from survivors that detailed how the minor girls were mentally and physically abused and tortured while authorities turned a blind eye towards it.

Among the most shocking testimonies, one of the survivor said that that she was raped by probably 600 or 700 different men. Another one said that the gang members put a cigarette out on her baby’s face. Another survivor recalled that one of her abusers took the bottle of Jack Daniels and forced it up inside her when she was just 12 or 13.
One survivor said that in a van. she saw 15-20 girls locked in dog cages as they were transported.
British grooming gangs scandal refers to the coordinated targeting of minor British girls (mostly white) by men of Pakistani origin and then sexually exploiting them. These gangs operated with impunity for several years and were ignored by the authorities. These gangs came to public knowledge when this massive scandal was uncovered around 2002.
Cities like Rochdale, Rotherham, Oldham, and Telford had these organised groups of Pakistani men grooming, trafficking and abusing vulnerable minor girls.
