Delhi Police has busted a major international illegal arms smuggling racket linked to Pakistan intelligence service ISI that was supplying weapons made in China and Turkey to India. The pistols made in the two countries were being smuggled into India.
The crime branch of Delhi Police has arrested 4 individuals involved in the racket. The unit also seized 10 semi-automatic pistols and 92 live cartridges. The seized weapons included Turkey-made 5.7 pistols and China-made PX-3 pistols.
The weapons were being smuggled into the country from India-Pakistan border and were then distributed across the country.
The authorities are now investigating how many weapons the gang has distributed across the country. The bank accounts and social media activities of the gang members is also under investigation.
Police authorities also revealed that the smuggling network was functioning under the direction of ISI. The weapons were first routed to Pakistan and then through ISI’s support, smuggled into India.
Notably, this smuggling racket has been uncovered shortly after the white collar terror module was uncovered in Faridabad, neighbouring Delhi. Thousands of Kilograms of explosives were discovered during the raids.
Security has been tightened in and around Delhi following the Red Fort terror blast that killed 13 and injured several others. This raid is also part of the same efforts to ensure the safety of the residents.
