Seven people were killed and 45 others injured in Pakistani military attacks in the Kunar province of Afghanistan. The drone attacks carried out by Pakistan led to the death of children as well. According to provincial officials, the strikes took place on Monday, April 27.
Khadija, wife of Syed Muhammad; Salman, son of Syed Muhammad; Syed Ghulam, son of Saifor; and Hadia, daughter of Syed Ghulam, were transferred in an injured condition to the Frontier Corps hospital in Shakas. The body of one child was taken to Dogra Hospital, while two injured women, Baseena, wife of Kashif, and Sahira, wife of Tawwab, were transferred to HMC.
Reportedly, the Pakistani forces carried out drone strikes followed by artillery shelling in areas around the provincial capital. The Information and Culture Director of Kunar, Najibullah Hanif, said the victims were civilians and confirmed damage to the Syed Jamaluddin Afghan University building, which was also hit during the attack.
Meanwhile, tensions have intensified along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Local residents reported mortar shelling by Pakistani forces in Kandahar’s Spin Boldak district, to which Afghan forces responded with retaliatory fire. Earlier, clashes in the same district reportedly left six Pakistani soldiers dead, with Afghan forces also seizing weapons. The escalation follows an incident late Sunday night, when Pakistani forces allegedly shot dead an Afghan child, triggering a strong response from Afghan security forces.
