It has now been months since rumours of a switch in leadership of Karnataka Congress government have been floating around and looks like the rumours may finally come to an end. There were speculations that at the time of forming the government, there was an informal agreement that there will be a rotational CM and Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar will take charge for 2.5 years each.

The government hit 2.5 years mark last year and since then, rumours of a switch have been circulating. However, the party High Command had been unable to put these rumours to rest despite meeting the two Karnataka politics stalwarts multiple times during that period.

However, the latest rumours suggest that an agreement may have been reached upon after senior party leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi met the two Karnataka stalwarts in Delhi yesterday, May 26.

As per reports, Deputy CM Shivakumar is likely to be elevated to the post of Chief Minister with the sitting CM Siddaramaiah being compensated with a Rajya Sabha seat and a cabinet minister post for his son.

Reportedly, DK Shivakumar has also been asked to ensure that his supporters avoid raising slogans or making public comments until the situation within the party is streamlined

If this transition does go through smoothly, it will end months of speculations and rumours around the Karnataka CM post. For best part of the year, there have been rumours of a power tussle between the two pillars of Congress in Karnataka.

This would also mean that Congress will get time to focus on the governance of a highly important Indian state instead of spending all their time trying to resolve the internal conflict.

However, a final decision is yet to be made and who knows, maybe this tussle will continue in future as well.
