Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a 3 nations official visit. The first stop of that is Indonesia, followed by Australia, with the concluding leg in New Zealand. During this visit, PM Modi is expected to sign several agreements with these 3 key countries in the eastern Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. During the first leg of his visit, PM Modi landed in Indonesia last night, and has since been busy signing several critical Memorandum of Understandings with Indonesia.
PM Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto held delegation-level talks to review the bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation in sectors like trade, defence, maritime security, digital technology, health, and education.
Notably, Indonesia is looking towards India for support in election technology, management expertise, and institutional support to modernise its electoral system. After all, India holds the world’s largest election and the Election Commission of India’s prowess in holding such an exercise is unrivalled.
In addition, Indonesia is also looking to procure BrahMos cruise missile system and the Astra air-to-air missile, India’s indigenous weapons that have caught the eye of the world.
During PM Modi’s visit, several Memorandums of Understanding were signed between India and Indonesia. The sectors covered defence, critical minerals, agriculture, steel, maritime cooperation and emerging technologies. In addition to that, the two countries also decided to enhance their cooperation in the fields of manufacturing, food security and digital technology
During their meeting, PM Modi and President Prabowo Subianto also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen the India-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Following the meeting with PM Modi, Indonesian President Prabowo described India as a trusted strategic partner and welcomed the expansion of bilateral ties across key sectors.
Notably, while in Indonesia, PM Modi will also visit the holy Prambanan Temple on the island of Java, a holy 9th Century Hindu shrine that India is going to help renovate.
