Ceasefire, what ceasefire? UAE reportedly facing an Iranian missile and drone barrage even after a ceasefire was declared

On the intervening night of April 7 and 8 (India time), United States of America and Iran reached a ceasefire agreement. Since then, Pakistan has been jumping around claiming credit for brokering the ceasefire in the volatile region. However, the developments since then makes one wonder what is the ceasefire and where has the violence stopped?

Since the announcement of the ceasefire, Israel has continued its strikes on Lebanon, and now UAE and Kuwait are being reportedly targeted by a barrage of missiles from Iran. So what value is this ceasefire that US and Iran negotiated?

The war in the region started on February 28 this year after US and Israeli forces struck key Iranian infrastructure leading to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. The war led to closure of Strait of Hormuz by Iran which led to a global oil crisis. The world breathed a sigh of relief when US and Iran agreed to a short-term ceasefire but the events since then suggest it is anything but that.

With Israel continuing to attack Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy in Lebanon, and Iran itself attacking US allies UAE and Kuwait in the region, what is this ceasefire?

The UAE’s National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority warned local residents, “Air defense systems are currently responding to a missile threat, Please remain in a safe location and follow official channels for warnings and updates”.
