Rumours of a fuel shortage in parts of Gujarat have been firmly dismissed by the state government, with authorities calling them baseless and misleading. Addressing the speculation, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi made it clear that there is no shortage of fuel anywhere in the state and that supplies remain normal.
Sanghavi explained that petrol pumps across Gujarat are adequately stocked and that there has been no disruption in the supply chain. He attributed the confusion to misinformation circulating on social media, which led to panic buying in certain areas. This surge in demand created longer queues at fuel stations, giving a false impression of scarcity.
He urged citizens not to fall for unverified claims and to rely only on official updates. The government, he said, is closely monitoring the situation to ensure smooth distribution and prevent any artificial shortages caused by panic-driven demand.
Officials also highlighted how such rumours can quickly escalate into unnecessary public anxiety. When people rush to fill fuel tanks based on speculation, it temporarily strains local supply points, which is then misread as a systemic shortage. In reality, there has been no underlying issue affecting fuel availability in Gujarat.
The administration has appealed for calm and responsible behaviour, warning that those spreading misinformation could face action for creating unnecessary panic.
At a time when information spreads rapidly, the Gujarat government’s categorical clarification serves as an important reminder: there is no fuel crisis in the state, only misinformation.
