In the latest attack on a military convoy in central Kurram in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. 6 security personnel, including an officer, were killed and over 15 others were injured.
A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that on October 29th, in the afternoon, an attack was carried out on an army-paramilitary force convoy heading from Sadda to Doga in the Sultan Kili area. He added that after the attack, the militants torched two military vehicles.
Security forces have launched search operations after the incident. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. Earlier, on October 7, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for an attack on security forces in which 16 personnel, including two officers, were killed.
After the attack, security forces continued with their anti-militant military operations, which led to the displacement of hundreds of families from the area. Central Kurram was once a stronghold for militants, but they fled the area after extensive military operations in 2010, which significantly improved the security situation in the region.
However, TTP have recently become active again, carrying out several attacks on Pakistan security forces. Additionally, incidents of killing and abduction of civilians in the area have also increased.
In recent years, insecurity has significantly increased in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Kurram. Militants frequently target police, soldiers, government officials, politicians, clerics, businessmen, tribal elders, former militants, and activists.
The government and security forces claim they are committed to fighting terrorism and will continue targeted operations against militants.
The military and police regularly claim to have killed suspected militants in these operations.
