In many ways, the ceasefire has come to resemble a stopgap improvisation rather than a structured peace initiative. It bought time—but did not use it effectively. The absence of trust, coupled with continued military brinkmanship, has turned what should have been a cooling-off period into a stage for further escalation.

Prior to the series of grenade attacks, Punjab witnessed a campaign of intimidation, most notably the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the State Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali in May 2022, followed by a similar RPG strike on the Sarhali Police Station in Tarn Taran in December 2022.

A controversy has arisen over the JAMUKA Amendment Bill, over the retention of references to the then Muslim League, Jamaat-e-Islami, Nezam-e-Islam, and wartime collaborators, in the statutory definition linked to the Liberation War.

But beyond that attack, civilians have also been killed and wounded in airstrikes in other parts of Afghanistan, including Kabul, and families whose homes were destroyed say their lives have been completely shattered.

Pakistan's key demand is that Afghan Taliban officially declare TTP a terrorist group and shut its centers. Afghanistan's Taliban government insists TTP is Pakistan's internal issue, and they'll define terrorism based on national interests, "not Pakistan's demands to label someone a terrorist."

The Israeli Prime Minister's office has condemned Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif's remarks, in which he called Israel a "cancer-stricken country".
