Pahalgam terror attack: Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed named in supplementary chargesheet

On Monday, July 6, National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed supplementary chargesheet in the Pahalgam terror attack case. In this chargesheet, NIA has named Lashkar-e-Taiba and The Resistance Front chief Hafiz Saeed. Notably, The Resistance Front had claimed responsibility for the terror attack before taking a U-turn and denying any involvement.

In the chargesheet filed before the NIA special court in Jammu, the agency charged Hafiz Saeed in his individual capacity and also as chief of the banned LeT and TRF.

The terrorist, who lives freely in Pakistan, has been charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The supplementary chargesheet provides details of the conspiracy hatched in Pakistan and Hafiz Saeed’s role in the terror attack. In the earlier 1,597 page chargesheet, the NIA had named Pakistani handler of the terrorists, Sajid Jatt as an accused. Three other terrorists, who were killed by security forces during Operation Mahadev, as well as two arrested accused were also named.

Pahalgam terror attack took place on April 22 last year when Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 people. The terrorists targeted Hindu tourists in Pahalgam after checking their religion. India launched Operation Sindoor in response destroying several terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
