On Saturday, June 20, the new tool to create dissatisfaction among India’s youth, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), will hold a protest at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The last protest held by this CJP had fizzled out with very low attendance, and the protest that was supposed to last till 5 PM was pretty much over by 3 PM. Now, they are making another attempt to create some noise for their “cause”, though it is confusing what is their cause.
Cockroach Janta Party was formed after the Chief Justice of India’s comment in which he called some activists and unemployed youth “cockroaches” and “parasites of society”. The activists took the comment to heart and formed this Cockroach Party. Quickly, this newly formed party pivoted from the CJI as their target to the Indian government being their target.
CJP latched on to the trending issue at the time, the NEET exam paper leak. Looking to build a support base among Indian youth, they tried to capitalise on this paper leak issue, and have been holding protests in various cities across India. Not many youngsters are coming to these protests, and cameras always outnumber the protesters is another story.
Now, this CJP is holding a protest at Jantar Mantar on June 20, apparently for the NEET students. Notably, NEET re-exam is on June 21. So the question arises, what should the youth appearing for NEET do. Should they just try to relax and calm their minds before the biggest exam of their lives yet, or should they study for that last minute preparation, or should they go to Jantar Mantar in 40 degrees Celsius heat to boost someone’s political career?
It is really hard to say which one would be a better thing to do, isn’t it. I can understand CJP’s motivations for holding the protest a day before the NEET exam, will get more coverage, will be in news more, will get talked about more, see, even we are talking about it. But which student will spend a day out in the heat of Delhi a day before their big exam. Unless, students are not even a priority for this CJP and they are just using this issue to build their own political careers, and just trying to create dissatisfaction against the government of India.
