In a heated phone call on Monday, June 1, the US President Donald Trump lashed out at Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu over Israel’s operation in Lebanon. Trump was angry with Israel’s bombardment of Lebanon while US is trying to negotiate a peace deal with Iran.
Notably, Iran has made it clear that a ceasefire in Lebanon is a key condition for any deal with the United States. Iran’s talks with Washington are getting stalled as Israel continues to bomb Lebanon. This has infuriated Trump as without a peace deal with Iran, the Strait of Hormuz continues to remain closed, and the global energy crisis shows no sign of ending any time soon.
During his phone call, Trump said to Netanyahu, ” “You’re f**king crazy. You’d be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving your a*s. Everybody hates you now. Everybody hates Israel because of this.”
Trump further said, ” “What the f**k are you doing?”
In response, Netanyahu released a statement in which he said that he had told told Donald Trump that Israel would attack targets in Beirut if Hezbollah did not stop attacking Israel, and that in the meantime, Israel would continue its operations in southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Lebanon announced a partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel marking a partial halt of hostilities.
