After months of rumours, speculations, and lobbying by the two factions of Congress party in Karnataka, finally it looks like there is a resolution. As per reports, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced his resignation during a breakfast meeting with state ministers.

Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar were in Delhi earlier this week where they had discussions with Congress High Command. Even though officially the agenda of the meetings wasn’t disclosed, it was widely speculated that it related to the future leadership of the Karnataka Government. However, now it looks like the meetings were called by the party High Command to ask Siddaramaiah to step down.

It was speculated earlier that in 2023, Congress had formed the government in Karnataka with an unofficial understanding that the CM post will be rotational with the two stalwarts of Karnataka politics getting the chair for 2.5 years each.

The breakfast meeting where apparently Siddaramaiah announced his resignation was attended by senior cabinet ministers of the state as well as DK Shivakumar. The resignation will apparently be submitted formally at 3 PM today, May 28.

This resignation will bring to an end months of speculations and political intrigue surrounding the CM chair. However, whether this will end the factionalism within Congress party in Karnataka or not, remains to be seen.
