Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on his 5-nNation tour earlier today, on May 15. His first stop of the tour was United Arab Emirates (UAE), he will later visit Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, and Norway. Even though UAE was a short stop during this visit, PM Modi managed to sign several important agreements with the UAE during this short stopover.
During PM Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi, India signed a strategic deal with the United Arab Emirates for the supply for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to help ease the impact of the Iran war and the closure of Strait of Hormuz.
The two countries also announced defence and infrastructure agreements along with investment commitments worth billions of dollars along with this energy contract.
UAE has been a long standing trade partner of India and now these latest deals are only expected to boost the partnership further.
After the meeting the the UAE President, PM Modi posted on X, “The friendship between India and UAE is very strong! Our nations will keep working together with the aim of building a better future for our planet.”

The visit of PM Modi assumed greater significance in light of the Iran war and how India’s oil supply from the Gulf nation has been disrupted.
India and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Strategic Petroleum Reserves to strengthen India’s energy security amid volatile crude markets and supply disruptions linked to regional tensions.
Currently, only Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is the foreign entity whose oil has been stored in India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserves.
