Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity, the Delhi government on Thursday announced a mandatory two-day work from home for its employees, among other measures to cut fuel and energy consumption.
PM Modi had asked for these austerity measures after the Iran war and closure of Strait of Hormuz, global Oil prices have skyrocketed putting a strain on India’s Forex prices.
The Delhi Chief Minister has also reduced her official carcade by nearly 60 per cent, bringing it down to just four vehicles. However, all security protocols will remain in place.

Mandatory 2-day Work From Home for Delhi government employees
Government staff have been directed to work remotely for two days every week to reduce commuting and fuel consumption.
Private companies advised to adopt 2-day WFH policy
The Delhi government urged private offices and IT firms to voluntarily implement similar remote-working arrangements.
Weekly “No Vehicle Day”
A dedicated day each week has been proposed to discourage the use of private vehicles and encourage sustainable transport habits.
20% cut in official petrol and diesel quotas
Fuel allocations for government officers’ vehicles are being reduced by one-fifth.
“Metro Monday” for ministers and officials
Ministers and senior officers have been instructed to use the Delhi Metro on Mondays instead of official vehicles.
Reduction in use of official vehicles
The government said ministers, MLAs, and officials would increasingly rely on public transport and carpooling.
No official foreign visits for one year
Ministers and officials have reportedly suspended government-funded foreign travel for the next year.
Cancellation of planned government events
Several official events and programmes have been cancelled to cut administrative and fuel-related expenditure.
Reduction in convoy size
Rekha Gupta also reportedly reduced her motorcade size by around 60% following the broader austerity drive.
Earlier, on Sunday, in Secunderabad, PM Modi PM had urged citizens to collectively contribute towards protecting the Indian economy from the ripple effects of the ongoing conflict in West Asia.
