Trump loses out on Nobel Peace Prize: Read who won

Venezuela’s influential politician María Corina Machado has won the Nobel Peace Prize 2025.

Machado won the Nobel for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.

Who is María Corina Machado

Born on 7th October, 1967, in Caracas, Venezuela, she is an industrial engineer and also did the Yale Fellows Program. Her political journey began far from party politics — through Súmate, a civic organization she co-founded in 2002 to monitor elections and promote citizen participation. It was also Machado’s launchpad into public life, positioning her as one of the most prominent voices challenging the late Hugo Chávez’s government.

Machado’s formal political career took shape in 2011, when she was elected to the National Assembly, however, it was short-lived.

Before the Nobel, Machado had already received two major honors in 2024 — the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize and the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought — both awarded for her steadfast commitment to democratic rights.

No Nobel for Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump, who has been demanding a Nobel Peace Prize for himself since beginning of the year for allegedly stopping wars amongst nations including nations who were not at war, has clearly not won the Nobel Peace Prize. The world waits to see how he reacts to this.
