Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan got abused on social media for celebrating India’s win and performing a Garba step on Instagram. Pathan, on 29th September, 2025, a day after India beat Pakistan to win the Asia Cup, posted a reel of himself dancing on Afghan Jalebi song and also performed a Garba step towards the end. He had captioned that during Navratri, the dance step of his is dedicated to Garba.
However, his celebrating India’s win and subsequently dancing and dedicating it to Navratri did not go down well with his coreligionists were not too happy. Here are some of the comments:
There were some comments, including ones by his coreligionists, who cheered Pathan and his dancing for India. However, there were quite a few mocking him and telling him how his celebrating India’s win is his attempt to prove his loyalty.
This is not the first time Muslim celebrities in India, who cheer for India or celebrate Hindu festivals are abused by Muslim social media users. From Shah Rukh Khan being abused for celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi to Zaheer Khan celebrating Diwali to now Irfan Pathan abused for celebrating India’s win, Indian Muslim celebrities are often on the receiving end of abuses just for not being radical enough.
Recently, Katrina Kaif was abused by Muslim social media users for adding the ‘Om’ symbol while announcing her pregnancy with her husband Vicky Kaushal.
