The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation had a meeting with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to mark the success of GST 2.0 reforms all over the country. The event that took place at the PSG Convention Centre in Neelambur brought together more than 1,000 traders to celebrate the government’s effort in reducing the tax rates and simplifying the system.
“As a result of introduction of the GST 2.0 the total trade has reached $67.7 billion for the period from September 22 to 31st October 2025, while the volume of e-commerce transactions only has registered 22% growth,” the minister announced. Mrs. Sitharaman has also mentioned that the reform raised the purchasing power and hence the incomes of the sellers which is why the general economic growth has been visible especially in the sectors of automobiles, insurance, and consumer electronics.
The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation, while acknowledging the benefits of the reduction of the GST slabs to two main categories, expressed their desire for a single GST slab so as to make the tax-related duties simpler for both sides. Their representation to the minister includes a 33-point list of demands, among the points is a proposal for a pension scheme for small traders similar to that of farmers’, and also requesting clearer rules in regard to tax penalties and registration.
President A. M. Vikrama Raja stressed the point that the introduction of GST 2.0 had an enormous positive effect on the sales carried out during the festival seasons and, therefore, it brought economic benefits to merchants from different parts of Tamil Nadu.
GST 2.0 steps are not only very crucial but also timely as they are helping India to recover economically by offering incentives to consumers and at the same time making it easy for businesses to comply with labor laws. The merchant-friendly tax reform has been identified as the main reason why small and medium traders have suddenly felt the need to invest in the stocks and improve the sales channels thus leading to a bulging market.
The 22% rise in e-commerce trade is a direct result of the adoption of new consumer behaviors with online shopping being the fastest-growing segment post-pandemic.
Sitharaman confirmed that the government will continue to take steps to not only expedite GST registration but also to simplify income tax filing. The initiative taken by the government will bring about changes in operations by cutting down on unnecessary steps, opening up more business opportunities, and making tax changes deliver real progress and job creation.
The commendation of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman by Tamil Nadu traders mirrors the position of GST 2.0 in reshaping India’s trade and taxation landscape. With continuous reform and simplification, GST 2.0 is a major determining factor for India’s future economic growth, trade, and sector-wise expansion opportunities.
