On Friday, January 3, US President Donald Trump claimed that US has captured Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro after large scale strikes in the country. The US has long accused Nicolás Maduro of leading an international drug trafficking organisation from Venezuela. A bounty of $50 Million was also placed on Maduro’s head.
Venezuela government has not yet issued any statement about this arrest and the details of the arrest remain very thin. However, Maduro’s wife was also apparently captured along with him. The arrest reportedly took place after heavy bombardment by US forces in the country.
Trump posted on Truth Social, “The United States of America has successfully carried out a large scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Trump will address a press conference later in the day to share further details of the operation.
