The US Navy will reportedly start a naval blockade on all maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports starting 13 April, 10 EST (around 8:30 Indian Time) following the collapse of peace talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad.
While Pakistan was lauded a lot for brokering peace talks between US and Iran, turns out, there is no peace in immediate sight.
The blockade by US Navy will apply to vessels of all nations, but ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports will not be impeded.
Notably, 20% of World’s oil and Gas transits through this narrow strait which Iran has blocked ever since US and Israel forces launched air strikes on Iran.
In a statement, Centcom (US Central Command) said that the move would be “enforced impartially against vessels of all nations” using Iranian ports and coastal areas, including those along the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
With the world oil markets already in turmoil, such a move will exacerbate the world oil crisis.
If US Navy really enforce this blockade, one can be sure to say that the global oil crisis is going to get worse, so much for the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire which got praised by leftists around the world, what ceasefire?
However, the US said that freedom of navigation would be maintained for vessels transiting to and from non-Iranian ports without completely disrupting global shipping lanes. So only the Iranian ports would be blocked. Even that means a global disruption as many countries buy oil from Iran.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s Truth Social posts don’t offer any solace, Trump has said, “I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran. No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
These extreme stances from US and Iran, and the terrible negotiations by Pakistan, have thrown the entire world in jeopardy.
