Rahul Gandhi, daro matt, halafnama do!
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Gyanesh Kumar is not mincing words. Especially when responding to Leader of Opposition (LOP), Rahul Gandhi’s allegations on ‘vote theft’.
Pulling up Rahul Gandhi, the CEC said that either he has to apologise or give the allegations in a signed affidavit. He said that there is no other option.
Gyanesh Kumar was addressing a press conference on Sunday, 17th August, when he said that if Rahul Gandhi does not submit a signed affidavit, all this allegations would be baseless.
It is pertinent to understand why the CEC has asked for an affidavit from Rahul Gandhi. An affidavit has been sought to prove the allegations levelled by Rahul Gandhi on the Election Commission. Once a signed affidavit is submitted, it becomes documentation and one can be held accountable, unlike what Rahul Gandhi does with his shoot and scoot tactic.
It is also important that Rahul Gandhi is made accountable for his statements because he has been casting aspersions on the election process and making grave allegations against everyone associated with it. This constant questioning of the voting process weakens the trust people have in the democratic process. Rahul Gandhi and others in Congress ecosystem had made similar such allegations following 2024 General Elections. The Congress ecosystem had alleged large-scale vote rigging in state assembly elections too, in Maharashtra, Haryana – again, without any proof. But the moment any proof is asked for, Congress or Rahul Gandhi have not been able to provide any.
It appears that Rahul Gandhi does not want to face any consequences of his actions which is why he takes the route of cowardice. Rahul Gandhi wants power minus the responsibility. Something he has been doing for over two decades that he has been in politics.
