On the morning of Wednesday, March 25, a news started circulating in Indian media that the government of India has increased the LPG cylinder booking gap to 35 days from the existing 25 due to the situation in West Asia. The news claimed that the decision was taken by Indian Oil Corporation due to the shortage of LPG.
However, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has now debunked this news. Taking to Social Media platform X to debunk the fake news, the Ministry posted- Reports circulating in sections of the news and on social media about changes in LPG refill booking norms are incorrect.
There is no change in LPG refill booking norms.
• Minimum gap between two refill bookings remains:
– 25 days in urban areas
– 45 days in rural areas
• These timelines continue as per existing guidelines. Please, avoid panic booking. There is adequate LPG availability to meet demand.

Notably, after the crisis broke out in West Asia, government had put a limit of 25 days between booking of LPG cylinders to discourage panic buying and also to counter hoarders.
Despite government’s repeated assurances that adequate stock of LPG is available in India for domestic consumers, there have been repeated attempts to create panic about the same from nefarious elements.
