Friends, unless you are stuck in a cave somewhere. You would know that USA and Israel have waged a war against Iran. The stated aim of the war is regime change in the West Asian country. However, despite the death of Ayatollah Khamenei in an air raid, the Ayatollahs in Iran are continuing to fight with Khamenei’s son becoming the new ruler.
This war has brought anxiety to the entire world as Iran has blocked the Strait of Hormuz in response, the narrow sea corridor through which nearly 40% of world’s oil supply flows. Now, in such troubled times, one would expect Indian opposition to act responsibly and try to allay the fears of Indian people, Alas, nothing like this happened.
With people worried over the availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG, instead of allaying the fears of Indian public, opposition has focused more on spreading panic among the Indian populace.
Congress, which is the main opposition party in India, and its leader Rahul Gandhi, tried their best to spread panic among Indians. Rahul Gandhi publicly warned of a fuel emergency in India due to this ongoing war. When responsible politicians are expected to try to calm the public down during these challenging times, Congress always does the opposite, tries to create panic among people.
Notably, Indian ships carrying LPG have been safely carrying LPG from the Gulf nations to India during this conflict, the only country which has been able to achieve that. Ships like Shivalik and Nanda Devi has reached India from the Gulf carrying the cooking gas through the Strait of Hormuz. However, this has apparently not gone down well with the Congress party with their spokesperson Pawan Khera saying these ships had cargo destined for US and this is all just propaganda of BJP-led government. Interestingly, now that the ships have reached Indian ports, no comment has come from their side.
One can understand Congress is a political party and their leaders will do politics, and sometimes indulge in petty politics, but when the entire world is facing challenging times, is it right to try and create panic among the public? They wanted long queues in front of Petrol pumps and gas agencies of people scared that Petrol and LPG will run out soon?
India has sufficient petroleum reserves to guide the country through these turbulent times so even if it couldn’t import even an ounce of oil, Indians will be protected. However, Congress has nothing to do with the reality. They just wanted to spook the Indians to try and show Modi government in bad light.
This is not just one incident, Congress party under Rahul Gandhi has always tried to create panic among Indian public whenever we faced challenging times. Who can forget all the misinformation during Covid against Indian vaccines, and then Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleging a 1,10,000 Crore scam. While India was battling with a once in a century pandemic, instead of supporting the fight, such false rumours were being spread by Congress.
As India implemented lockdown during Covid pandemic, Indian opposition made a huge uproar about the migrant labourers who were going back to their home states. What was India supposed to do, let them be exposed to the deathly virus or like most countries in the world, enact a lockdown to safeguard everyone? Congress even tried to exploit this necessity.
When Russia-Ukraine went to war, thousands of Indian students got stuck in the middle of it. Indian government under PM Modi rescued every student stuck there and brought them home. But, Congress again tried to create panic in India that Indian government has left those students to their own fate.
Of course, once Modi government rescued everyone, there was no thanks to them from Congress side.
This begs the question, is the sole aim of Congress party creating panic and distrust towards the Modi government?
The world is in chaos right now, especially after Donald Trump returned to power in the US, this chaotic world throws up new challenges every day. In this challenging world, India is navigating as well as it can by dealing with every problem. However, Congress party is focused more on creating panic among Indian citizens than on helping India fight these challenges.
We always say India needs a strong opposition, well, maybe, we need a responsible opposition. Politics can be done on a million other issues, but when the nation faces a challenge due to global developments, maybe it is time to stand as one.
