After over 5 weeks of hostilities, US and Iran agreed to a temporary ceasefire on the intervening night of April 7-8. While it is yet to be seen how long the fragile peace holds, India has once again advised its citizens residing in Iran to leave the country as soon as possible after coordinating with the Indian embassy.

In their X (formerly Twitter) post, Indian Embassy in Iran urged all Indian citizens to leave Iran expeditiously.

In their post, the Indian embassy wrote, ““In continuation of the advisory of 07 April 2026, and in light of recent developments, Indian nationals still in Iran are strongly advised to expeditiously exit Iran, in coordination with the Embassy and using the routes suggested by the Embassy.”

The embassy also mentioned that there should be no attempt to approach any international border without prior consultation and coordination with the Indian embassy.

The embassy also shared emergency contact numbers for the benefit of Indian citizens who can reach these numbers for any need.

Notably, war broke out in Iran on February 28 this year when US and Israel launched air strikes on several key Iranian installations. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei was also killed in these strikes.

India had earlier also advised its citizens to leave the country at the earliest, but now, with the ceasefire in place, even if temporarily, India is looking to ensure all its citizens leave the war torn region safely.
