Gaza based terror organisation Hamas has agreed to release all the Israeli hostages as part of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan. Hamas had taken 100s of Israeli hostages back to Gaza after the terror attack on October 7, 2023. While many of them were rescued and a few died in captivity, dozens of hostages are still with Hamas.
Hamas took this decision after Trump gave an ultimatum that either Hamas accepts his 20-point plan by Sunday, October 5, or face grave consequences.
Following Hamas’ announcement, President Donald Trump told Israel to immediately stop bombing Gaza.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “Israel must immediately stop the bombing of Gaza, so that we can get the Hostages out safely and quickly! We are already in discussions on details to be worked out. This is not about Gaza alone, this is about long sought PEACE in the Middle East.”
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will continue to work in full cooperation with the President and his team to end the war in accordance with the principles set out by Israel, which align with President Trump’s vision.
Releasing the hostages is the first step in the process to end the war in Gaza that broke out after the October 7 attack. However, several issues still remain before peace can be reached.
Israel wants complete destruction of Hamas and wants disarmament in the Gaza strip. However, Hamas is unwilling to give up its weapons.
