After multiple protesters killed, the US Embassy says it is monitoring ongoing protests in Pakistan after Khamenei’s death

The US embassy in Pakistan is advising US citizens to exercise caution and stay informed about local conditions, especially near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control, due to terrorism and potential armed conflict risks.

In a recent statement, the embassy reminded citizens to review their personal security plans, avoid crowds and demonstrations, and stay aware of their surroundings. They are also providing routine and emergency consular services, despite some personnel being in “shelter in place” stratums.

The US Embassy in Pakistan says it’s monitoring ongoing protests in the country and urged all American citizens to exercise caution and prioritize their safety.

The embassy stated on X on March 1, “We are aware of reports of demonstrations outside the US Consulates in Karachi and Lahore, and also received reports of a planned protest outside the Peshawar Consulate and the Embassy in Islamabad.”

The post said, “We are monitoring reports of ongoing demonstrations at the U.S. Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore, as well as calls for additional demonstrations at U.S. Embassy Islamabad and Consulate General Peshawar.  We advise U.S. citizens in Pakistan to monitor local news and observe good personal security practices, including being aware of your surroundings, avoiding large crowds, and ensuring your STEP registration is up to date.”

The embassy advises US citizens in Pakistan to stay updated with local news and take necessary precautions for their safety.

The statement urges American citizens to be aware of their surroundings and avoid large gatherings and crowded areas. This comes as Pakistan sees intense protests against the killing of Iran’s top military commander.

Protests have erupted in Pakistan against the killing of Iran’s top military commander, amid ongoing attacks on Iran by the US and Israel.

Firing during a protest in Karachi left 8 people dead and many injured. The protest was held outside the United States Consulate General in Karachi following reports of the alleged attack on Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by Israel and the US. Security personnel from the consulate allegedly fired at the protesters, resulting in the casualties. The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals, and tensions are high in the area.

At least 9 people killed in clashes between protesters and security forces outside the US consulate in Karachi

Dr. Muhammad Sabir, head of Karachi’s Civil Hospital, told media that all the killed and injured had bullet wounds. It’s unclear if security forces were the only ones firing or if protesters also opened fire.

Sindh’s Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, has requested a detailed report from Karachi’s police chief about the incident. “No one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” Lanjar told media.

Thousands have also protested in Gilgit-Baltistan after Iran’s state media reported the killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Reports indicate some government buildings were set on fire during protests in Gilgit-Baltistan, but there’s no official word on casualties yet.

This comes after US President Donald Trump announced on February 28 that Washington has launched major military operations against Iran.

US President Donald Trump announced in a video statement that the US military has launched significant operations against Iran to prevent threats to American citizens. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed that Israel has initiated operations against Iran alongside the US.

The joint US-Israel operation, codenamed “Operation Epic Fury” by the US and “Roaring Lion” by Israel, targeted key Iranian military sites and officials, including the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The US and Israel aim to destroy Iran’s missile capabilities, prevent nuclear development, and disrupt regional instability.

The statement claims the attacks are aimed at preventing threats from Iran’s “terrorist regime” and changing the country’s fate. Iran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking officials a day after the US and Israel launched strikes.

The Iranian government has declared 40 days of national mourning in the country. The mourning period follows the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an attack reportedly carried out by the US and Israel. The government has also announced a 7-day holiday in the country.
