Mamata Banerjee is in a sea of trouble following the loss in the West Bengal assembly elections. She was decisively trounced in the elections, many of her party MLAs and MPs have deserted her, and she is even in danger of losing her own party’s symbol. Now, she has got a fresh headache to deal with.

An FIR has been registered against the TMC Supremo over an alleged inflammatory speech delivered during a public protest in Kolkata in March this year. In her speech, Mamata Banerjee had warned that if a particular community comes together, it can have dire consequences for others.

A complaint was filed at Hare Street Police Station by a Kolkata resident citing Mamata Banerjee’s speech, the complaint has now been treated as FIR by Kolkata Police.

The complaint was filed by Tushar Kanti Das, who said that the accused delivered a speech at the Dharna Mancha near Metro Channel in Esplanade (Dharmatala), Kolkata, on March 9. The complaint says that the speech contained remarks that could incite unrest, disturb public order, undermine communal harmony, and affect the state’s democratic framework.

Notably, this is not the first FIR registered against Mamata Banerjee in recent times. In May, another FIR was filed against Mamata Banerjee for hurting religious sentiments based on a complaint by Advocate Rinki Chattopadhyay Singh. That FIR was registered in SIliguri Crime Crime Police Station.

While the former Bengal Chief Minister is busy fighting the political battle of her life to save her party, it seems she has to gear up for some legal battles as well.
